Atelier Nicolao, active since 1980 on the international film, theater, and opera scene, boasts a repertoire of over 15,000 cinema and theater costumes made with fine fabrics and workmanship for major film and opera productions, complete with accessories.
Over the years, the collection has become increasingly valuable and varied, so much so that we are able to provide costumes for all types of events and activities, from historical reenactments to gala events, from costume parties to elegant evenings and ceremonies, to costumes for artists or event staff.
Enter the magical world of Nicolao Atelier with guided tours for groups, individuals, and schools, or online with a live virtual visit.
During the one-hour tour, led by Maestro Stefano Nicolao, the specifics of the costume design profession will be illustrated, which differ from those performed in a traditional tailor’s shop where period costumes are not created.
Some significant pieces from the collection of original costumes from various centuries will be on display, along with reproductions and remakes of authentic ones, highlighting the origins of the study and research.
You will also be able to appreciate some unique and precious pieces of antique fabric, modern handmade reproductions, and reconstructions from authentic period samples, and learn how people used to dress up during the Venice Carnival.
Film and Theater Productions
Atelier Nicolao works for the most important opera productions and international theaters, from the Lyric Operas of Chicago and Washington to the New National Theatre in Tokyo, from the Teatro La Fenice in Venice to the National Theater of Shanghai.
Film productions range from Marco Polo and Farinelli, to the very latest collaborations on “Veneciafrenia” by award-winning director Alex De La Iglesia, and on the film “Across the River and Into the Trees” starring Liev Schreber and Matilda De Angelis.
